Save the date for 2014 reunion in Croatia

Following the success of recent European reunions in Austria and Germany, Thunderbird alumni will gather June 12-15, 2014, in the Mediterranean paradise of Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw endorsed the site during a 1929 visit to the coastal city. "Those who seek paradise on earth should come to Dubrovnik," he is quoted as saying. The city became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1979.

Croatian alumna Andrijana Culjak '99, who is helping to plan the event, said June is ideal for visiting the historic location. "It is not yet overcrowded," she said. "And temperatures are warm enough for swimming."

Space will be limited, so plan ahead to attend. For more information, contact Culjak at, John Cook '79 at, or Thunderbird Alumni Relations Senior Director Terri Nissen at

Plate sales raise funds Thunderbird license plates have become a common sight on campus. Through January 2013 the Arizona Department of Transportation has sold 438 of the specialty plates featuring the Thunderbird logo on a world map. Thunderbird's portion of the revenue is nearly $8,000. "The great news here is that all who purchase a plate will renew the plate every year or two, adding yet again to the sales," said Aram Chavez '08, who has spearheaded the project.

To order a plate, visit and click "Vehicle" under service categories. Then click "Personalized/Specialty Plates."

Chinese university honors Thunderbird professor

Thunderbird Professor Roe Goddard, Ph.D., found himself as the surprise guest of honor in December 2012 when he traveled to Southwest University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. Goddard thought the university had brought him to Sichuan Province to participate in a strategic planning session for its Executive MBA program. Something to Brag About: Chapter Events

We love seeing what you've been up to. Here's a look at some great events from all over the world:

Alumni in Ho Chi Minh City kept tradition alive Dec. 7, 2012, with their ninth annual holiday dinner at Amigo Steakhouse, the site of the group's original holiday party in 2003. Curtis "King" Kovach '91 played harmonica and Alex Loh '86 sang Christmas tunes during the event.

Louie Lee '08 and Alice Coyukiat '09 got married recently in Manila, Philippines. Thunderbird classmates from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the United States (New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, California) traveled to the ceremony. "This is proof of the great T-bird community," Louie says.

Thunderbird alumni organized a new chapter in Ottawa, Canada. Four T-birds came to the group's first meeting on Feb. 24, 2013. "It was a lot of fun," says chapter leader Tamara Fathi '09.
